'Lucky Store' in Bel Air Sells Two $10K Scratch-Off Tickets in One Day: Maryland Lottery

BEL AIR, MD — A Bel Air woman has dubbed one gas station a "lucky store" after she and another customer both won $10,000 prizes there recently, according to the Maryland Lottery.

The 70-year-old woman said she stopped at the Carroll Fuel in the 1400 block of Rock Spring Road to get gas and picked up a scratch-off while there. She selected one that was numbered eight in honor of her late son's birthday.

When the lottery machine at Carroll Fuel's store alerted her that she could not redeem her winnings there, she knew it was her lucky day.

“It told me that the scratch-off ticket I had just bought was too large to cash and that I should come straight here to lottery headquarters, so here I am,” the woman told Maryland Lottery officials after playing the Crossword Deluxe game.

The woman, who has worked for more than 35 years as an internal program specialist for a government agency, plans to use the $10,000 to pay off her car, make home improvements and save for retirement, lottery officials said.

When she redeemed her winnings, she discovered she was in good company.

“The same day I won, another customer [at the same Carroll Fuel] purchased a $5 scratch-off ticket and ended up winning a $10,000 prize as well," she said. “Now do you see why I think that’s a lucky store?”

Carroll Fuel is located at 1467 Rock Spring Road in Bel Air.
