Demi Lovato Is Thoroughly Unfazed By Hackers Stealing Her Private Photos
What’s wrong with being confident? Absolutely nothing when you’re Demi Lovato and you have better things to worry about than a hacking scandal.
The “Body Say” singer is the latest victim of the recent hackings of intimate celebrity photos, joining stars like Emma Watson and Amanda Seyfried in a club of famous women that absolutely no one asked to be in.
A photo of Lovato allegedly wearing an unzipped hoodie in bed has made the internet rounds this week. But if you think this is the scandal to bring Demi down, you clearly haven’t been paying attention. While other celebrities are attempting to secure justice using legal channels, the former Disney star is taking inspiration from her hit “Frozen” song and letting it go.
On Tuesday, the 24-year-old clapped back at hackers who thought a stolen racy photo of herself would faze her in the slightest with a series of tweets reminding everyone that she’s very comfortable in her own skin.
“I love how everyone’s freaking out about one picture. It’s not nude and it’s just cleavage ... Besides the world has seen me nude BY CHOICE before,” she tweeted, adding a string of our new favorite hashtags #vanityfair, #nicetry #cleavagegameonpoint, #myboobsarenteventhatbig and #angles.”
Lovato is referring to her 2015 Vanity Fair spread, in which she decided to forego all clothes and makeup for a stripped-down and stunning set of photos.
Speaking with the magazine, Lovato, who’s been open about her battle with eating disorders, said she wanted to show a “side of me that’s real, that’s liberated, that’s free.”
Demi Lovato responds to reported racy photo leak
Demi Lovato has become the latest A-list female star to have a racy photo leak online, according to multiple media reports.
The Sun reports an explicit photo of Lovato in an unzipped top has been circulating on porn sites.
Intimate images of the singer were also leaked in 2014 right before many other top stars had their explicit pictures posted online in a massive hacking scandal.
Lovato seemed to take the recent leak in stride. She tweeted a casual response late Tuesday.
“I love how everyone’s freaking out about one picture. It’s not nude and it’s just cleavage. Besides the world has seen me nude BY CHOICE before #vanityfair #nicetry #cleavagegameonpoint #myboobsarenteventhatbig #angles.”
Still, a new wave of hackings seems to have hit the stars this month. Photos of Amanda Seyfried “in various states of nudity” were recently featured on the website Celeb Jihad. Last week, her legal team sent a cease and desist letter to the site demanding the photos be taken down.
Also last week, Mischa Barton’s lawyer sent out a warning to anyone potentially shopping around nude footage of the actress.
“It has been reported that naked or sexually explicit images of Ms. Barton are being ‘shopped around,’” attorney Lisa Bloom wrote in a statement released via Twitter on March 14. “Ms. Barton does not consent to any disclosure of any such images. She believes that she was recorded without her consent by someone she was seeing at the time.”
The letter continues, “There’s a name for this disgusting conduct: revenge pornography. Revenge pornography is a form of sexual assault, and it is also a crime and civil wrong in California. And we will not stand for it.”
Similarly, personal photos of Emma Watson were also posted online this month.
"Photos from a clothes fitting Emma had with a stylist a couple of years ago have been stolen,” wrote the 26-year-old’s publicist to Fox News at the time of the leak. “They are not nude photographs. Lawyers have been instructed and we are not commenting further."
Demi Lovato laughs off revealing photo: 'It's not nude and it's just cleavage'
Emma Watson and Amanda Seyfried lawyered up in response to the unauthorized release of hacked, private photos. Demi Lovato has taken to Twitter.
The Confident singer addressed reports Tuesday that a photo revealing her cleavage had been leaked and published online. Lovato used quite a few Tears of Joy emojis while letting her nearly 42 million followers know that she finds some amusement in the situation.
"I love how everyone's freaking out about one picture," Lovato said in her first tweet on the topic. "It's not nude and it's just cleavage."
"Besides the world has seen me nude BY CHOICE before," she wrote in a follow-up post, citing her Vanity Fair photoshoot from 2015. In the images shot by photographer Patrick Ecclesine, she posed without makeup or retouching, and in most cases without clothes.
Lovato is one of several female celebrities associated with allegedly stolen photos as of late. WWE wrestler Paige confirmed Friday on Twitter that personal images of hers were stolen and distributed without her permission.
For Lovato, the alleged leak is not an isolated incident. Photos of the former X Factor judge were reportedly posted to her then-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama’s Twitter account in 2014 after it was hacked.
