South Carolina coach Frank Martin gives warm response to 13-year-old reporter

No. 7 seed South Carolina posted another big upset during the Sweet 16 on Friday, rolling over No. 3 seed Baylor in a 70-50 win.

A major key for the Gamecocks was their suffocating defense. They held the Bears to just 28 percent shooting in the first half and 37 percent in the second.

Following the game, 13-year-old Sports Illustrated Kids reporter Max Bonnstetter asked South Carolina head coach Frank Martin about what he prioritizes when teaching the Gamecocks to play tenacious defense. Martin's response is sure to put a smile on your face.

ESPN's Coley Harvey tweeted that Martin made a point to ask "where is my man?" -- in reference to Bonnstetter -- at Saturday's media availability.

The Gamecocks will face No. 4 seed Florida in the Elite Eight on Sunday at 2:20 p.m. ET on CBS.

Frank Martin awestruck by kid reporter’s question after South Carolina upsets Baylor

South Carolina is off the Elite Eight after another smothering defensive effort. The Gamecocks cruised to a 70-50 win over No. 3 seed Baylor on Friday.

SEC Player of the Year Sindarius Thornwell led the way again, this time pouring in 24 points for the seventh-seeded Gamecocks. But while Thornwell captured the spotlight during the game, an even younger star with professional aspirations dominated the postgame press conference.

South Carolina will face Florida on Sunday with a trip to the Final Four on the line. The Gamecocks and Gators met twice this season in SEC play – with each winning on its home court. For South Carolina to make it two out of three, it’ll need attitude and technique on the defensive end.

Raise your hand if you had South Carolina in the Elite Eight.

Liar.

Well, maybe you did have the Gamecocks one win from the Final Four, but a whole lot of people didn’t. And few expected South Carolina to destroy Baylor on Friday night, but the Gamecocks won 70-50.

After the game, South Carolina coach Frank Martin was asked a question by an SI Kids reporter. Martin, the former Kansas State coach, gave a sweet response.
