Police locate former Atlanta Braves player Otis Nixon
WOODSTOCK, Ga. - Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Otis Nixon has been found safe.
The Woodstock Police Department sent out a tweet Sunday evening saying Nixon, 58, was last seen leaving his home about 10 a.m. Saturday.
We're working to learn new details about his disappearance for Channel 2 Action News starting at 4 p.m.
He was last seen in a gray 2011 Range Rover with Georgia tag CFP9010.
Police said Nixon left for a tee time at a local golf course, but never arrived.
He left wearing a black long sleeve-shirt, black sweatpants and a black baseball cap, with black Adidas shoes with white stripes.
Nixon joined the Braves during the team's worst-to-first season in 1991. The following season, Nixon made his now famous catch, leaping high above the outfield wall to rob Pittsburgh’s Andy Van Slyke of a go-ahead home run. “The Catch” preserved a 13-game winning streak for the Braves.
He amazed fans with leaping catches and blazing stolen bases, with a career record of 600. But he missed the Braves' trip to the World Series in 1991 after failing a drug test.
Channel 2 Action News previously reported on Nixon following a 2013 arrest on charges of crack cocaine possession.
He declined to talk at that time.
A police report stated a crack cocaine pipe was found in Nixon's pocket and following his arrest, Nixon allegedly handed a deputy a small bag containing suspected rock cocaine.
An additional pipe was found in the truck.
The report stated Nixon did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and stated the drugs and the pipe belonged to his son.

Police in Woodstock, Georgia, say they have located former MLB outfielder Otis Nixon, who was reported missing Saturday.
"Otis Nixon has been located and is safe. We appreciate the assistance from the public and media," the Woodstock Police Department posted in a message on Twitter.
Nixon, 58, was reported missing by his girlfriend Saturday after failing to show up to a golf outing. He had last been seen that morning leaving his home in a 2011 gray Range Rover.
It is unclear what circumstances led to Nixon's two-day disappearance. He has battled well-known issues with drug dependency, which were prevalent throughout his playing career. In 2013, he was arrested on multiple drug charges after being found with a crack pipe and crack cocaine in his car by police.
Officers charged him with “contributing to the delinquency of a minor” and “permitting an unlicensed person to drive" in a 2015 incident. He was previously arrested in 1987 on drug-related charges and was suspended by Major League Baseball for 60 games in 1991 after testing positive for cocaine. The latter violation caused him to miss the 1991 World Series.
Nixon played for nine teams during his MLB career, including two stints with the Atlanta Braves. His game-saving catch against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1992 NLCS is one of the most memorable defensive plays in franchise history.
Nixon finished his career with 620 career stolen bases and a .270/.343/.314 slash line.

Police in Georgia announced Monday that they had located former Atlanta Braves player Otis Nixon.
Nixon, 58, was last seen on Saturday morning when he left his house in his SUV en route to a golf course, where he had a tee time. Nixon never arrived, and Woodstock police sought the public's help in locating him.
"He's safe and sound," Woodstock police Sgt. Randy Milligan told USA TODAY Sports.
Milligan said further details on Nixon's disappearance would be released at a later time.
Nixon played 17 seasons in the majors, including four with the Braves.
