WATCH: Matt Kuchar makes ace on 16, signs ball for fan

Matt Kuchar might be known for the quiet backdoor top 10, but the way he went about charging up the back nine Sunday was nothing quiet. It culminated with an ace on the par-3 16th.

From 179 yards, Kuchar tossed in his 7-iron beyond the hole, and as we’ve seen happen many times over the years, his ball worked and worked its way back to the cup. When it grabbed the edge of the cup and fell in for a one, the fans (and Kuch) went crazy. Check out the wild shot and ensuing reaction below.

Matt Kuchar may not win the 2017 Masters Tournament, but his play during the fourth round Sunday won't be soon forgotten after he hit a hole-in-one on No. 16.

Kuchar struck the ball beautifully with his driver, and it landed in the sweet spot on the green. The ball had just enough backspin on it to roll back into the hole.

Kuchar was on the outside looking in for most of the fourth round, but after hitting the hole-in-one, he jumped into a tie for third place.

Matt Kuchar aces 16th, gives autographed ball to young patron

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Now this is how you create a few Masters memories.

Matt Kuchar, the cheeriest fellow on Tour and one of the most notable never to win a major, stepped up to the tee at the 16th hole five strokes back of the leaders. Kuchar drew back his seven-iron, let fly, and, with the precision of a man who’s played this course a time or two, nestled the ball into perfect position to roll right into the cup.

The cheers echoed through the pines, and Kuchar slapped dozens of awkward golfer high-fives, the perma-grin on his face growing somehow even wider. And then Kuchar topped even that bit of goodwill by grabbing a pen, signing the ball, and handing it to a gleeful kid sitting greenside.

Kuchar was playing six holes ahead of the leaders, but stood alone in third place when the ace dropped. He’ll have plenty of time in the clubhouse to watch and see if his day might get even better.
