10 Luxury Goods Are Useless

10 Pointless Luxury Items

1. You Would Not Believe How Much It Would Cost To Make An Actual House Out of Supreme Bricks

Getty Images
In August, Supreme announced its Fall / Winter 2016 collection, but it was not a piece of clothing that had the hypebeasts turnt, it was the Supreme Brick. While it might sound crazy, Supreme's put its name on everything from Everlast boxing gloves to this fire buck knife. It's just what they do. Surprisingly, it does not appear anyone sat down and solved one of the more intriguing questions regarding this Supreme brick: How many Supreme bricks would it take to build a house, and how much would that cost?

Thanks to Reddit, we have the answer: US $ 4,704.00. That's around the same price as this 13,500 square foot home on Prince Edward Island that sold earlier this year. The logic behind the Reddit user's final tally, in his words: "I calculated how many bricks it'd take to build a 2400 square foot home, which is 117600 bricks. I then just took the cost of the Supreme brick, I made it US $ 40,00 to include the shipping and such. So, 117600 x 40 = US $ 4,704.00

2. Would you spend US $ 290.00 on a designer paper bag? The new must have for ladies who pack their own lunch.

The German fashion house sent a solemn bevy of cashmere clad models down the fall winter 2012 runway, clutching the rolled up bags in leather gloved first. Now the unassuming accessory is hitting stores.

With a spare US $ 185.00 laying around and a serious lack of creativity, anyone can waltz into Office Depot and drop some cash on 13,300 paper clips. For anyone who does not want to saunter into work and make it rain paper clips like the patron saint of office supplies, you can spend that same money on just one. Prada created a sterling silver "paperclip shaped" money clip, which Barney's is selling for US $ 185.00. At 6.25 centimeters long and 2.25 centimeters wide, Prada's magnum opus clocks in at just over US $ 13.00 per square centimeter. Unsurprisingly, people on Twitter were less than impressed.

"US $ 185.00 for a paperclip? This thing better be able to hold my life together, " one user tweeted.

6. Balenciaga is selling a fake paper bag for £876 – and we don’t understand why

Getty Images
FRENCH designer Balenciaga is selling a fake paper shopping bag for £876, and it's proved so popular that it's already sold out on some websites. The "shopping bag" looks identical to the free paper bags they give you after purchasing something in store, but rather than costing nothing, it costs an eye-watering €995 (£876). That's because while the paper bag is made up of, well... paper, the other bag, which is made in Italy, is 100 per cent calfskin.

According to its description, the handles are in "Nappa leather" while there is silver hardware and zip pockets inside. The most bizarre thing about the designer bag is that it's already sold out online, despite the sky-high price-tag and its identical appearance to a paper shopping bag.

7. Vetements Weed Grinder

Shortly after marijuana legalization passed in California, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Maine in 2016, French fashion house Vetements released a weed grinder necklace, just in time to celebrate! The tricked-out grinder comes in silver and gold and will run you approximately $750.

8. Most expensive Lego brick in the world expected to sell for £12,000

Getty Images
One of only a handful of 14k solid gold 2x4 bricks ever made sparked a bidding frenzy when it was put up for sale on auction website Catawiki. The last time one of the bricks was sold, in 2012, it went for a whopping £8,000. Between 1979 and 1981, the extra special bricks were originally given to Lego employees that had fulfilled 25 years of employment at their main factory in Germany. What makes this commemorative brick even more special is that it can be used with all other Lego sets, thanks to its patented interlocking nodules.

A lucky American won the auction, and is now the proud owner of the golden brick, which weighs 25.65g, and is exactly the same size and shape as an original Lego brick. John Hughbanks, president of Lego fan website Brick Envy that sold the brick, said: "This is definitely the most special brick I have ever come across. "The other precious metal items that Lego has done in recent years are nice but almost all of them were simply contest prizes. "The 2x4 gold brick had to be earned, there was no luck involved at all. Someone had to work for 25 years of their live, in one place, just to get it. "The story is what separates this brick from anything else, in my own opinion."

10. Why Does This Cat Food Cost Over $11,000 a Year?

Getty Images
Given all the luxury pet spas and fat camps exclusively for dogs, it’s about time cats get some love. Earlier this month, UK brand Green Pantry launched a luxury cat food for a whopping $918 per month. (That’s the equivalent to $11,000 per year, $15.3 per serving or about $1.53 per mouthful.) Each 2kg-packet—priced 30 times the average cat food at $306 and expected to provide ten days’ supply—contains Arenkha caviar, line-caught Scottish salmon, hand-caught Norfolk lobster, and locally-sourced Devon crab. With organic asparagus, quinoa, and saffron, it’s completely free from preservatives, GM, additives and artificial colors.

Named British Banquet after its high-quality British ingredients, the idea of this luxury cat food came about when celebrities and other VIPs reached out to Green Pantry for a more luxurious product, according to Simon Booth, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Green Pantry. As the manufacturer of holistic pet foods for cats and dogs, the team felt a lot of emphasis within the pet trade is geared toward dogs. So to provide a high-quality dietary alternative for cats—which at this point is still largely based on cereals and their derivatives, the team spent two years developing this product.
