Alabama’s team bus cannot stop leaving Lane Kiffin behind at the Playoff

Alabama won the national championship last year, and when the Tide’s team bus rolled out of the stadium in Arizona, it was missing Bama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.
The Tide just left him behind. The guy coordinated an offense that dropped 45 points on Clemson in the biggest came of the year, and they just left him behind. Kiffin had been busy talking to reporters, probably about how his team had just scored 45 points.
Fast-forward one year, and Kiffin has suffered another bus-related indignity. ESPN’s Chris Low has the dispatch from Atlanta, where the Tide are readying to face Washington in a Peach Bowl Playoff semifinal on New Year’s Eve (3 p.m. ET, ESPN).
Lane Kiffin was left behind by the Alabama team buses -- again.
This time, it was following Alabama's media day session Thursday morning for the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Kiffin was the last person from the Alabama contingent doing interviews after the hour-long session ended, and by the time he got out of the Georgia Dome locker room and to where the buses were supposed to be, they were already headed back to the team hotel in downtown Atlanta.
"Yep, got left again," cracked Kiffin ...
Kiffin’s still coaching with the Tide on their current Playoff run, even though he’s already accepted the head job at FAU for next season. Maybe the Owls will be more diligent about not leaving Kiffin off their chartered vehicles.
Lane Kiffin Left Behind by Alabama Team Buses After Media Day Session
Offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin helped lead the Alabama Crimson Tide to the national title last season and the College Football Playoff this season, but that apparently doesn't warrant a spot on the team bus.
According to Chris Low of ESPN.com, Kiffin was left behind by Alabama's team buses following Thursday's Peach Bowl media day session. Low noted Kiffin was the final member of the Crimson Tide to complete interviews, and the buses had already left for downtown Atlanta by the time he made it out.
It was business as usual for Kiffin considering the same thing happened to him when he was talking to reporters after last season's 45-40 victory over Clemson in the national title game.
"First, I get fired on the tarmac," Kiffin said at the time, per Low, "and now I get left behind at the national championship."
Low pointed out Kiffin was referring to when USC fired him after he served as the program's head coach from 2010-13.
Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports wrote Kiffin was fired by the Trojans "in the early morning hours after touching down at a private airport" following a loss to Arizona State. Kiffin called it the low point of his career, although he seemed to have a sense of humor about it after Thursday's incident.
Despite his inability to make the team bus, Kiffin's offense scored 40.5 points per game this season, which is one reason the Crimson Tide are two wins away from their second straight national title.
Kiffin's ability to direct a dynamic offense caught the eye of Florida Atlantic, who elected to hire him as its head coach for the 2017 season.
The Owls will attempt to replicate the success the Crimson Tide enjoyed under Kiffin, although they could certainly improve on Alabama's transportation system for the incoming coach.

Alabama’s offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin appears to have a chronic transportation problem.
Nearly a year after he watched the Crimson Tide’s team bus roll off without him following the team’s 45-40 win over Clemson at the national championship in January, Kiffin found himself without a ride again. This time, Kiffin missed the bus after Alabama’s College Football Playoff media day session ahead of Saturday’s semifinal in the Peach Bowl.
“Yep, got left again,” Kiffin quipped (via ESPN).
He wasn’t left stranded for long, however. According to ESPN’s Chris Low, the 41-year-old hitched a ride back to the team hotel with a Peach Bowl staff member.
Kiffin appeared to take Thursday’s missed ride in stride. According to Low, he managed to joke about it. Last year, he seemed to panic a little.
“My bus is leaving,” he said in January. “That’s not good. . . . They’re leaving right now. . . . Crap.”
The experience reminded Kiffin of his infamous firing from Southern Cal in September 2013, when he was let go at the airport after stepping off the team bus returning from the Trojans’ loss at Arizona State.
“First, I get fired on the tarmac, and now I get left behind at the national championship,” Kiffin told ESPN last year.
Maybe he’ll have better luck with FAU’s drivers.
