Mike Tomlin blasts Antonio Brown for sharing locker room video
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was not happy with Antonio Brown’s decision to broadcast private locker room content on social media, and Tomlin says the star receiver will be disciplined for his actions.
On Tuesday, Tomlin told reporters that the language used in the video by himself and others was “regrettable” and apologized for setting a bad example. After holding himself accountable, he unloaded on Brown.

While it’s highly unlikely that the Steelers will refrain from signing Brown to a long-term contract extension because of the video, those of us who thought Tomlin would downplay incident were wrong. Brown deleted the video from his Facebook page on Monday morning, but you can watch it here.
Even if Bill Belichick wants to crack hilarious jokes about Tomlin calling the New England Patriots a bunch of “a–holes,” Tomlin clearly feels Brown’s lapse in judgment was no laughing matter.

The once-viral Facebook live video (before it was removed) posted by Antonio Brown in the minutes following the Pittsburgh Steelers’ victory Sunday over the Kansas City Chiefs has been dismissed by New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and shrugged off by Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower.
But Steelers head coach — the man throwing the salty bombs in the video — had a few serious things to say about it in his meeting with the media on Tuesday.
A few interesting things here. Tomlin’s apology for his locker room language wasn’t a surprise, even though he didn’t really have to. After all, this was what he thought was a private meeting with his team, congratulating the players for their huge effort in a hard-fought game. Besides, Tomlin made sure to remind the players not to be on social media, which made this whole thing all the more ridiculous — Brown kept taping for 13 minutes after Tomlin’s warning.
That’s what had to make the coach so mad. And that’s why you hear him lashing out at his star receiver publicly. We are surprised Tomlin hasn’t yet spoken to Brown, but as the team got back late Monday morning and have been in catch-up mode, there is a logical and logistical explanation for that.
But did Tomlin suggest that Brown’s move might have jeopardized his chances of landing a lucrative contract, as has been expected, and remain with the team long term? Certainly it wasn’t that serious an offense … we assumed.
For now, read this as Tomlin coming in hard on Brown as an example to the rest of the team. Brown might have heard Tomlin’s message in the locker room, but he clearly wasn’t listening. And perhaps that’s the biggest message now that Tomlin is trying to get across: We need to be razor sharp this week in facing the Patriots and pay attention to every little detail.
And Tomlin wasn’t afraid to call out of one his star players in order to get that message heard loud and clear — by everyone.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown created a controversy last Sunday following the team's 18-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs to reach the AFC Championship Game by posting a Facebook video featuring head coach Mike Tomlin speaking to the team.
In the video—which has since been removed from Brown's Facebook page—Tomlin used explicit language when discussing the New England Patriots, who the Steelers will play this coming Sunday. BSOTV on YouTube shared the video (warning: NSFW content):
On Tuesday, Tomlin met with the media and addressed the video. He did issue an apology, though not to the Patriots.
"I apologize as a parent for language," Tomlin said, per Chris Bradford of the Beaver County Times.
Per Bradford, Tomlin also noted Brown will face internal punishment from the Steelers and possibly external discipline from the NFL for the video.
Due to the sensitive language in the video, Tomlin said it's one of the reasons "why we go to great lengths to preserve certain moments & interactions between us," per Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Tomlin also discussed what Brown can take away from this incident, which has taken away some focus from the upcoming game against the Patriots.
"(Brown) has to grow from this. He works extremely hard, he's extremely talented and those things get minimized with incidents like this," Tomlin said, per Bouchette.
Tomlin also described Brown's actions as "selfish and inconsiderate" and a violation of NFL policy, per Bouchette.
As for the Patriots' potential response on the field to the video, per Jacob Klinger of PennLive.com, Tomlin noted he isn't worried this is going to motivate them for the AFC title game.
Both teams are playing for the right to represent the AFC in Super Bowl 51. If you need more motivation than that, something is wrong.
Brown's decision to post the video has also taken away from his own dazzling performance this postseason, as well as the dominance of running back Le'Veon Bell through two playoff games.
Brown has 11 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns against the Chiefs and Miami Dolphins. Bell has been unstoppable with 337 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 59 carries in the two playoff wins.
The Patriots will be focusing their attention on finding ways to stop that duo Sunday more than what was said in a video, but the Steelers are busy now trying to put out a fire that didn't need to be started in the first place.
