Terry Crews Is Probably Almost Definitely Voicing Doomfist In 'Overwatch'
Something strange and/or awesome is going on in Overwatch now, and it’s one the more hilarious news stories I’ve followed in quite some time. For a long time now, Overwatch has been teasing the main villain of its universe, a character called Doomfist. Doomfist has actually been many characters over the years, each empowered by a gauntlet. It’s what you’re transporting in the Numbani map on the payload, and it’s the gauntlet that was shown in the very first Overwatch teaser trailer.
The point is that Doomfist, in one form or another, is almost certainly going to make his way into Overwatch. And while most of the game boasts a talented, but not terribly well-known voice cast, that may be about to change.
For reasons I still don’t fully understand, Old Spice/Expendables/Brooklyn 99 actor Terry Crews seems like he’s on the verge of getting the part. I believe this all started about a month ago when a fan on reddit made a popular thread about hoping that Crews would voice Doomfist, after the poster saw that the actor was a gamer, and seemingly an Overwatch player to boot.
Terry Crews then showed up in the thread itself to comment “I would LOVE TO PLAY DOOMFIST” and I know you just read that in his voice. That set fans buzzing and now, all of this absurdity has culminated in Terry Crews actually paying a visit to Blizzard HQ, and then subsequently posting a news article on Facebook about his visit saying “Who wants to hear me do the voice of Doomfist for real??” There are four and a half thousand comments saying some approximation of “yes, please.” Even The Rock chimed in to say he was on board.
I have seen actors petition for roles they desperately wanted before. Tom Jane has done this a few times, where there was one photo of him in Jonah Hex makeup that he created himself in order to try and land that part (which went to Josh Brolin), and he made a Punisher short film in what seemed to be an attempt to get himself cast in a sequel (which never happened, and now Walking Dead actor Jon Bernthal is playing the part for Marvel).
Terry Crews 'Overwatch' Doomfist: Dwayne Johnson voices support as excitement builds
The rumors of a new Terry Crews-voiced Overwatch character named Doomfist still sit largely in the realm of pure fantasy, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have an official endorsement from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
For the past several months, the Overwatch fandom has been chattering about the idea that Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor Crews could voice a rumored Overwatch character that's been teased since the game's inception. Crews responded to the idea on Reddit, saying that he would "love to play Doomfist." Since then, he's posted images of himself visiting Blizzard's campus, which only served to fuel the rumor mill even more.

Make it happen, Blizzard, or you'll have to answer to both Terry Crews and The Rock. You've been warned.
‘Brooklyn 99’ star Terry Crews wants to voice an Overwatch character
Overwatch could be adding a celebrity to its roster.
Terry Crews, an actor known for his intensity and bulging muscles, wants to voice a character in Overwatch, Blizzard’s hit team-based shooter that has over 20 million players since launching last May for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Brooklyn 99 star (or maybe you know him from those over-the-top Old Spice commercials) recently visited Blizzard and posed in front of an Overwatch logo. Crews site, ArtBuff, then today posted a story about Terry’s visit and the rumors that he could voice a new character, Doomfist. Crews then posted the following Facebook status today.
Fans have been guessing that Doomfist could become an addition to the team-based shooter since Blizzard first revealed the title. Overwatch’s debut trailer had characters fighting over Doomfist’s gauntlet, and three banners in the Numbani map show three different people who used the Doomifst moniker.
Could “the successor” be the Doomfist that Crews wants to voice?
So far, Overwatch has added two characters after it launched: the sniper-healer Ana and the stealth-hacker Sombra. Since those two were a support and offensive character respectively, it makes sense that a tank (a character designed to absorb a lot of damage) could be next. The beefy-looking Doomfist could easily be a tank, and Crews bravado could be an interesting fit.
Blizzard has cast traditional voice actors for the roster of Overwatch heroes, so netting a celebrity would be a change. Also, Blizzard constantly records new lines of dialogue for its characters to match holiday events and interactions with new maps and characters. So, if Crews really wants to be Doomfist, it wouldn’t be a one-time gig.
