‘Everything, Everything’ Trailer: YA Adaptation Finds Love in a Sterile Place
Warner Bros. and MGM have released the first trailer for the upcoming romantic drama Everything, Everything. Based on the book of the same name by author Nicola Yoon, the film stars Amandla Stenberg as Maddy, an 18-year-old girl who’s lived her entire life confined inside her house due to a rare illness that requires a hermetically sealed environment. When super sexy neighbor Olly (played by Nick Robinson) strikes up a relationship with Maddy, she finds herself wanting to venture to the outside world now more than ever.
Stella Meghie (Jean of the Joneses) directs the film from a screenplay by The Age of Adaline scribe J. Mills Goodloe, and while this is very much a story you’ve seen before, the teen crowd will likely find something appealing about this specific romance. The romantic drama YA boon hit big after The Fault in Our Stars broke bank at the box office, but few films have been able to reach those same heights as studios have been adapting books with similar stories, themes, and characters. Indeed Everything, Everything is another “possibly doomed romance due to illness” story, but it’s nice to see a non-white family at the center of the film for a change of pace.

The Song In The 'Everything, Everything' Trailer Will Make You Want To Go On An Adventure — VIDEO
Even without the gut-busting soul-stomping vocalization of the U.S.A's Queen Beyoncé, the first trailer for Everything, Everything would feel like an emotional roller coaster ride. The movie (and corresponding trailer) adapted from Nicola Yoon's young adult novel about an 18-year-old quarantined in her home is bound to bring about some tears. Meanwhile, the song in the trailer titled "Runnin' (Lose It All)" — which is a collaboration from the English producer Naughty Boy with the Mother Goddess (Bey) and Arrow Benjamin — does it's darndest to add to the emotional value. The song in the Everything, Everything trailer will make you feel like you need to leave your office job right now and go to the beach because life is so short. Honestly this trailer might be considered NSFW for that reason because that vibe is definitely assisted by the fast-paced background song.
The film follows Maddy (Hunger Games' Amandla Stenberg), a teen who's spent her entire childhood inside her home due to a mysterious immunodeficiency. Her only companions for her childhood include her mother, an over-protective doctor, and her nurse. Then, the new boy-next-door comes a-knocking on the door, bundt cake in hand, and it's love at first sight. In a Romeo and Juliet-esque twist, Maddy's mother is not a fan of her daughter's neighborly boyf, Olly. But despite Mama's reservations, the love-soaked teens get to "Runnin', runnin', runnin', runnin'" so that Maddy can experience as she puts it, "everything, everything," or at the very least, one perfect day before she (probably) dies.
The power ballad from Naughty Boy describes the subjects disregarding their personal hangups and pursuing each other despite it all. The lyrics "These four lonely walls have changed the way I feel" and "Ain't runnin' from myself no more" almost seem like they were made specifically for this movie. But, actually they weren't, the song actually came out in September 2015. Even the music video, which features a couple running after each other while under water feels similar to the ocean-heavy vibe of the Everything, Everything trailer. It's like this song didn't reach its full potential until this very moment.
The combo of the song and trailer do a great job of reminding us how short life can be, and yet how long it feels without adventure, or love. They also both serve as a reminder that being true to oneself is the only way to be in love. There's a lot of feelings in one two-minute period brought to us all by this trailer/trailer song combo.
Get ready for all of your feelings to reach a final resting place when Everything, Everything premieres May 19! If this trailer brought a tear to your eye, chances are you'll cry buckets of salty tears during the movie. Almost like...the ocean? It's fitting, no?
