Vince Young hires agent, aims to return to football

Vince Young hasn't given up on his dream of playing pro football.

Chosen as the third-overall pick in the 2006 draft by Tennessee, Young had his moments under center for the Titans. Compiling a 30-17 record, Young threw 42 touchdowns and 42 picks in Tennessee before later starting three games for the Eagles during that ill-fated 2011 campaign.

Young later emerged to sign a one-year deal with the Browns in 2014, but Cleveland released him less than two weeks later. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound passer announced his retirement from the NFL soon after.

Off the field, Young pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 18 months of probation last month for a 2016 drunken driving arrest in Austin, Texas, per The Associated Press. He currently works for the University of Texas promoting diversity and community engagement -- but the football bug remains.

Every offseason is dotted with comeback attempts. Most dip south before September. Young is battling the odds -- and Father Time -- but NFL decision-makers are an unusual and unpredictable bunch.

Perhaps someone will give him a look-see before summer turns to autumn.

Vince Young hires agent in hopes of reviving playing career

Former NFL quarterback Vince Young has hired agent Leigh Steinberg in an attempt to reboot his football career.

Steinberg announced that he signed Young, 33, in a Twitter post on Wednesday, declaring Young has a "dream of playing more football."

On Thursday, Steinberg tweeted that he was in negotiations with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL regarding Young.

Young, the former star at Texas, has not played in an NFL regular-season game since 2011. He retired from football in 2014.

The Spring League, an independent four-team football league made up of free agents that debuts in April, has publicly expressed interest in adding Young, the former No. 3 overall pick who earned rookie of the year honors and made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2009 during his six years in the NFL.

Young last attempted a comeback in 2014, a brief offseason stint with the Cleveland Browns. He signed following a minicamp tryout but was cut days after the Browns drafted Johnny Manziel. Before that, Young was cut by the Green Bay Packers in the preseason in 2013.

Young works for the University of Texas as a development officer in its division of diversity and community engagement.

He returned to his alma mater, where he led the Longhorns to a national championship in 2005, following his retirement and took a position specifically created for him that pays $100,000 annually.

Young was sentenced to 18 months of probation in January after pleading no contest to a DWI charge. He was fined $300 and ordered to complete 60 hours of community service to resolve his case after a January 2016 arrest in Austin.

Vince Young’s agent speaking to Riders about playing in CFL

The agent representing former NFL quarterback Vince Young says he’s talking to the Saskatchewan Roughriders about his client playing in the CFL.

Young is on Saskatchewan’s negotiation list, giving them CFL exclusivity to the former Texas star.

On Wednesday, Steinberg welcomed his new client on Twitter and said the Pro Bowl quarterback "has dream of playing more football, being role model."

Young, who turns 34 in May, hasn’t been on an NFL roster since the 2014 off-season, when he was with Cleveland for two weeks before being released. He hasn’t played in a regular-season NFL game since 2011 when he was with Philadelphia.

After a record-filled college career at Texas, which he led to the national championship in the 2006 Rose Bowl, Young was drafted third overall by Tennessee later that year. He was the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and made the Pro Bowl, and was selected again following the 2009 season but never fully lived up to lofty expectations.

Last month, Young pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 18 months of probation for a 2016 drunken driving arrest in Austin, Texas. He currently works for Texas promoting diversity and community engagement.
