Warlords weakened and other changes in For Honor before the open beta this weekend
Ubisoft is making a few last-minute balancing changes in its imminent medieval brawler For Honor on the back of last weekend's closed beta. Expect certain abused tactics and overpowered heroes to be smoothed out.
We’ll all get a chance to try the tweaked heroes out in the forthcoming open beta, which runs from tomorrow at 2pm GMT (9am Eastern) to Sunday at 10pm GMT (5pm Eastern). Pre-loading is live now.
The details come from streamer Brandheldbrando, who has had access to the new open beta build and gathered up all the tweaks. The list is not comprehensive; there is talk of Nobushi nerfs, for instance, but they haven’t been tested.

'For Honor' Open Beta Starts Today On Xbox One, PS4 And PC
Time to get slashing. Ubisoft’s medieval brawler For Honor goes into open beta on Xbox One, PS4 and PC today, pitting knights, samurai and Vikings against each other in brutal close-quarters combat. Open beta began at 9 am EST, and continues until Sunday, February 12. For directions on how to load and participate, check out Ubisoft support. The open beta comes quickly on the heels of a recent closed beta.
Considering the fact that the game launches a mere two days after the open beta ends, it’s fair to consider this as what we would call an “advertising beta.” The game is more or less complete, and this is essentially a way to boost publicity in advance of launch; a common practice in the industry these days. Basically, it’s less a traditional beta and more a demo with the slight possibility of server stress tests and balance tweaks. So, don’t expect any significant improvements between now and launch.
For Honor has been an interesting title ever since it debuted at E3: it’s been called a “shooter with swords,” with elements of MOBAs and fighting games. It promises a robust system of attack, defense and weapon positioning in its combat system, going a bit beyond even what’s offered in a game like Nioh. I’ll be very curious to see how to make it work. Genuinely complex, semi-realistic melee combat has been a tough target in the gaming world for a very long time, and I’ve never quite encountered a title that’s been able to pull it off. If For Honor is the one that makes it work, I’d expect to see elements of these systems cropping up in all sorts of games with swords.
We’ll have more thoughts on the game as we get playing: I’ve been spending an awful lot of time as a samurai in Nioh, so maybe its time to give Vikings a roll. Check back for more. For Honor hits retail on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.

For Honor comes out on February 14, but you don't have to wait until then to play a sizable portion of the game. The swordfighting game's open beta is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
As announced previously, the beta lets you try nine of the game's 12 heroes and four of the five modes; there are six maps in the beta. Check out the image below to see what's included.

- Fixed Storm Rush stamina penalty on Parry
- Attack indicator is now visible during the run part of Storm Rush
- Zone Attack range reduced from 4.3m to 3.5m
- Bleed damage on stabs decreased
- Headsplitter Leap (forward dash heavy attack) range reduced from 4m to 3.5m
- Headsplitter Leap (forward dash heavy attack) stamina damage reduced from 40 to 20
- Headbutt can no longer be cancelled into guardbreak
- Full Block Stance entry stamina cost increased from 5 to 15
- Dash forward range reduced, stamina cost increased, removes less stamina on hit, and can't be cancelled into guardbreak
- Increased HP from 115 to 125
- Light attack damage increased to 20 from 15
- Helmsplitter (forward dash attack) damage increased to 20 from 15
- Swift strike (side dash attacks) damage increased to 20 from 15
- Fixed bug on side dash where you could go into the top heavy after dash.
