Ben Affleck: 'I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction'

Ben Affleck has revealed he recently underwent treatment for alcohol addiction.

"I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront," the actor wrote on his Facebook page.

He continued, noting his family has been top of mind. "I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step."

Affleck, 44, previously completed treatment for alcohol addiction in 2001.

After completing his press tour for the poorly received gangster movie Live by Night (awarded just a 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) Affleck took a step back from the spotlight in the past two months, stepping down as director of the upcoming film, The Batman on Jan. 30.

Affleck said he would still star as the caped crusader.

"Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require," Affleck said in a statement at that time.

Affleck only recently appeared at a public event at the Oscars on Feb. 26, sitting with his brother Casey Affleck and cheering him on as Casey won the best actor prize for his work in Manchester by the Sea. "Ben, I love you," said Casey from the stage.

Though he and his wife, Jennifer Garner, announced a split in June 2015, outlets including People recently reported the two are working on reconciliation. They have three children: Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8 and Samuel, 5.

"I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do," Affleck wrote on Tuesday, in closing. "This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery."

Affleck's next film is the superhero confab Justice League, in theaters Nov. 17.

Ben Affleck reveals he underwent treatment for alcoholism

Ben Affleck has said he recently completed treatment for alcoholism.

The actor, who previously went to rehab in 2001, made the revelation in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday night.

The 44-year-old father of three said the condition was “something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront”.

“I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be,” he said. “I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.”

Affleck said he was fortunate to have the love and support of family and friends including his “co-parent, Jen”.

He and Jennifer Garner announced their separation in 2015 after a decade of marriage. The couple has yet to divorce and both say they remain on good terms.

In 2012 the actor told the Hollywood Reporter that he went to rehab “for partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be. It was more a ‘let me get myself straight’, before it became a rite of passage.”

As well as starring in blockbusters such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Daredevil, Affleck has also directed several films. They include the Oscar-winning Argo, and Live By Night, which was released in the UK in January to generally unenthusiastic reviews.

He and Matt Damon also won an Academy Award in 1998 for their screenplay for the film Good Will Hunting.

In January, Affleck announced he would no longer direct The Batman, in which he will again play the Caped Crusader.

“Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give,” Affleck said. “It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require.

“I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

He will also appear as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Justice League, due for release in November.

Ben Affleck shares he's completed treatment for 'alcohol addiction'

Ben Affleck has revealed he has completed treatment for alcohol addiction.

The actor disclosed his treatment in a statement on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

"I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront," he wrote. "I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be."

Affleck previously sought treatment for alcohol abuse in 2001.

"I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step," Affleck wrote. "I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do."

Warner Bros. announced back in January that Affleck was stepping down from his 'Batman' directing duties. At the time he said the decision was made because the role "demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give."
"It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require," he said at the time.
He was replaced by Matt Reeves in February.

Affleck will still produce and star in the film for Warner Bros., which like CNN is owned by Time Warner.

"This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery," Affleck added in his post.

Affleck was most recently seen in public at the 2017 Academy Awards in February.
