Report: ‘Empire’ Insiders Reveal Nia Long’s Extreme Diva Behavior, She Is Threatening to Sue
Gorillaz and Vince Staples Team for New Song “Ascension”: Listen
After recent reports that a feud between Nia Long and Taraji P. Henson was brewing on the season three set on Empire broke, the allegations have only intensified.
Less than 24 hours after the initial claim, TMZ is reporting that things have gotten even worse and legal action is allegedly being taken.
In the far-fetched report, the site claims that the hair and makeup team on the set of Empire lodged a complaint against Long after a slew of allegedly rude exchanges — making it the first complaint in the show's history. According to the report, which cites "well-placed production sources," the actress also threatened to sue the hit TV series over an "improper goodbye."
This all comes after reports that the Love Jones actress was disrespectful and unprofessional throughout her course of filming.
Taraji P. Henson, the star of the show, was reportedly irate with Long after learning of how she treated the staff. The tension between the actresses allegedly got so thick that producers were pushed to find ways to shoot their scenes separately so they would not have to interact.
In addition to the claims of a diva attitude, TMZ's source claimed Long was "habitually late" and would have Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson waiting at times on set for 30 minutes for her arrival to commence shooting. When she would fail to show up, the producers would reportedly use a stand-in so that the cast could rehearse.
In regards to Long's lawsuit for the "improper goodbye," the site claims that it is a custom practice on set for guest stars to have their name announced once they complete their final scene, followed by a "thank you" and applause. Due to Howard allegedly having an allergic reaction, which led to his lip swelling, Long did not receive the usual guest-star farewell treatment and left while the assistant director was looking for Benadryl for Howard.
The site reports that while she made her exit, Long told someone in production she was going to sue the show as the "goodbye" was in her contract. Production sources allegedly claim otherwise.
The actress's rep spoke with TMZ again in response to the allegations.
"We stand by our comments this morning that Nia has always, and continues to be, a consummate professional on set," the rep said. "In respect to her working relationships with the cast, she came onto this project, in the first place, because of her long-standing friendship and professional relationship with Terrence Howard."
Proving that these claims are hard to believe, her rep revealed that the reports of complaints and a lawsuit are news to them.
"We are not aware of any complaint, suit or case against her from anyone involved in the show, and we find the timing of all of these stories to be very suspicious, given that the series returns tonight," the rep added.
Nia Long's reps have continued to deny the flighty claims, saying they are all completely made up.
'Disrespectful' Nia Long 'accused of mistreating Empire's hair and make-up team and turning up late to film with Taraji P Henson and Terrence Howard'
Nia Long had a formal complaint filed against her and turned up late to film scenes opposite main stars Taraji P Henson and Terrence Howard, according to a new report.
The claims come Thursday from TMZ as the site also alleges that Nia had also threatened the program Empire with a lawsuit over an improper goodbye.
Multiple people who work the cast, crew, and production of the hit Fox series told the site that Long's behavior was 'disrespectful and unprofessional.'
Insiders for the gossip site say there were multiple incidents centered around the 46-year-old actress but gave three actual in-depth examples.
In the new report it is claimed that Nia was 'habitually late' to the point where a stand-in would have to be used in rehearsals for scenes with Henson and Howard.
TMZ's insiders also said that the only complaint for mistreatment ever made by the hair and make-up team of the show was against Long.
They called her 'extremely disrespectful' adding 'from rappers to Demi Moore, and no complaints were lodged against anyone but Nia.'
Lastly, it was reported that when Nia filmed her last scene 48-year-old Howard had an allergic reaction and was being tended to by the Associate Director.
Though it remains unclear what the actual AD's intentions were, a source told TMZ that Long had walked out and told a person working production that she was going to sue them because the goodbye was supposedly in her contract. However the site claims it wasn't.
TMZ also claims to have spoken to an actor who worked with the veteran actress as they said they would never work with her again.
Long's representatives did respond to TMZ about the claims as they said: 'We stand by our comments this morning that Nia has always, and continues to be, a consummate professional on set.
'In respect to her working relationships with the cast, she came onto this project, in the first place, because of her long-standing friendship and professional relationship with Terrence Howard.'
The reps concluded that they have not been informed of any official statements or complaints about their client.
They said: 'We are not aware of any complaint, suit or case against her from anyone involved in the show, and we find the timing of all of these stories to be very suspicious, given that the series returns tonight.'
This comes after reports that Long and 46-year-old Henson were at odds on the set of Empire according to TMZ Wednesday.
Insiders for the gossip site claim that things got so volatile that there was consideration to shoot their scenes together separately.
It reportedly began as there were claims that Nia, 46, was rude to those who worked in hair, wardrobe, and make-up which 46-year-old Taraji apparently did not take kindly to.
In fact, TMZ report that the hair and make-up crew have even launched an official complaint against her, alleging she was 'extremely disrespectful' towards them.
Nia's reps have since denied those reports to TMZ.
However their sources indicate that things reached such a boiling point that the two stars halted even speaking to each other on set.
They also claimed that it was so hard for Long and Henson to film together that they tried to figure out a way they could film separately.
Nia's rep told TMZ: 'This story is complete nonsense. Throughout her long, established career, Nia has been nothing but a consummate professional treating all members of productions with respect.
'This is nothing but another complete fabrication about a series that has been plagued by constant rumors of drama and misconduct.'
Nia began on the series during season 3 as she stars as Giuliana (Giusi) who is Lucious Lyon's (Terrence Howard) ex.
Taraji famously plays Loretha 'Cookie' Lyon, who split with Lucious after a 17-year stretch in prison though the two are in the process of a reconciliation on the show.
According to TMZ sources Nia will not be asked back on the show for season 4.
Empire returns tonight at 9pm on Fox.
Nia Long and Taraji P. Henson's Empire Feud Boils Down to Being the Bigger Star, Source Says
Nia Long and Taraji P. Henson's Empire feud is real, according to a source close to the TV show's set.
Amid reports that the two actresses are "at each other's throats" on the set of the Fox show, a source tells E! News that their bickering boils down to each actress wanting to be the star of the show.
"Tensions calmed between them towards the end of the season, but it comes down to the fact that they both have been in the industry for so long and both want to be the star," the insider explains. "Unfortunately for Nia, Taraji is the star of Empire and no one and nothing will ever change that. Nia came with her own ideas, and they weren't having it."
Tensions rose to such levels that the source confirms producers were looking into ways to shoot their joint scenes separately. "Unfortunately, that's true," the insider says. Then again, "Nia may not be on the show anymore after this," the source adds.
But Long is also set to lead The Goldbergs spinoff, so she might not have returned to Empire anyway. Our source also tells us that Long's threat to sue over an "improper goodbye" stems from an event that took place on the last day of filming.
"It was when Nia made a big scene and claimed to 'file a lawsuit' against the crew after they rewrapped her trailer for a girl in the Make-a-Wish Foundation whose wish was to come to Empire," the source reveals. "Nia had finished filming and left so they changed her trailer into the Make-a-Wish girl's trailer. Then Nia popped back up and threw a giant fit when she saw it."
Afterwards, the two actresses "argued pretty badly in front of everyone."
Long's rep, however, says all of the feud rumors couldn't be farther from the truth.
