El Clasico: Best jokes, memes after Messi, Barcelona break Ronaldo, Real Madrid's hearts

If you didn't hear, El Clasico was on Sunday . And it was lit to the 10th degree. Lionel Messi starred, scoring two goals in the 3-2 win including the game winner in the final seconds  to move Barca into first on goal differential. Messi went on to perform an iconic celebration  after his winner, and it was truly one of the craziest matches in quite a while.

And you just know the internet had fun with this one. Here's the best jokes and memes from after the match:

Thought the draw was safe

When Real Madrid thinks they can escape with a draw

When you realise you've got #cristiano and not #Messi

GOAT 🐐

 Clever and confident

I fully endorse arrogant Messi celebrations. "Read my name slowly" is always a great celebration.

Too funny

How is Lionel Messi 29 years old when Wikipedia says the average lifespan of a goat is 15-18 years? 🐐

Oh no, they didn't

El Clasico 2017: Neymar goes nuts after Messi lifts Barcelona over Real Madrid

Barcelona moved into first place in La Liga on Sunday with that massive 3-2 win over Real Madrid in El Clasico . And you may have noticed that the team did it without star attacker Neymar, who missed the game due to suspension.

The Brazilian was back in Barcelona watching the game with friends and family, and his reaction after Lionel Messi's winning goal and the win was something else.

Take a look (Warning: NSFW language in Portuguese in video):

He sure looked thrilled. Winning at the Bernabeu without Neymar was quite the statement, and this surely fuels Neymar to be even more productive when he comes back. It was a celebration for the road warriors in Madrid and one at Neymar's crib after a potentially season-changing result.

A Clasico full of controversies

Barcelona enjoyed a historic 3-2 El Clasico victory that will live long in the memory yet it was also a difficult evening for Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez as he had to oversee a match full of controversies.

It wasn't a comfortable evening for the Lanzarote-born referee as he had to make a number of important decisions which are likely to be highlighted in the hours following the full-time whistle. With the LaLiga title race now firmly in the balance, there are a number of issues that caused significant controversy at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Ramos' dismissal
In the 78th minute of play Sergio Ramos was shown a straight red for a two-footed challenge on Lionel Messi in an area of the pitch that simply didn't require such a tackle. Analyst Andujar Oliver made clear to Radio MARCA that the decision was completely correct. "There is no doubt about the red-card, Ramos deserved to be sent off and Hernandez Hernandez got it right," he explained.

Casemiro avoiding a red card
The Brazilian midfielder played a rather forceful first-half in which he netted the opening goal and twice left his mark on Messi with dangerous challenges. After being shown a yellow card for his first in the 12th minute, he actually stood on the Argentine's foot just before the break but wasn't punished. Oliver disagreed with the official on this occasion as he made clear. "In the 45th minute the Brazilian midfielder stood on Messi's foot to stop the counter-attack and should have been shown another yellow card and been sent off. Hernandez Hernandez was wrong not to punish him.

Marcelo's elbow on Messi
One of the lasting images of the evening will be a bloody Messi laying face down on the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu pitch following a collision with Marcelo. Replays showed the Brazilian's elbow connecting with the Argentine's mouth although no punishment was handed out.

Casemiro's goal
For the opening goal of the match there was a suggestion that Sergio Ramos was in an offside position when the ball was played into the penalty area, however replays would later show that Paco Alcacer had played the centre-half onside and the goal rightfully stood.

Umtiti's tackle on Ronaldo
Barely two minutes had gone when the first flashpoint occurred as Samuel Umtiti looked to have brought Cristiano Ronaldo down inside the penalty area. The Portuguese forward sped in just ahead of the defender and took the ball with the Frenchman making contact with Ronaldo's leg. However despite the contact Oliver feels that it wasn't significant enough of a touch for a penalty to be awarded. "There is contact between Umtiti and the Portuguese forward's leg but it wasn't enough to consider a penalty to be appropriate action."
