Off day catch-up: Calvert to avoid suspension?
It's an amazing mindset that the obvious issue that you have one player (losing a 4-1 game in the dying moments) attacks another with a cross-check from behind out of no where, and for no reason, and then follows up by slamming him afterwards. It shouldn't be an issue about whether sticks break easily, or matter that Kuhnhackl (who practiced today as normal) escaped an injury. The issue is not condoning that type of action, no matter the result.
We'll see if the NHL does the right thing here, but I for one am not expecting much from them. Oh well, onto the next one.

News broke that they finally came to their senses and thought better of passing it out.
Too bad, as a Penguins fan nothing is better than when you try to mock Crosby in a juvenile way. Ask the Philly fans with their signs or that Capitals fan girl with her pacifiers. Your weak heat just fuels him and he wins anyways. And the damage is already done in the regard that he has already heard about anyways so Lumbus is going to get all of the repercussions and not even have any of the fun that comes along with it.
Not sure if it's because they won the Cup, or a lot of movies are filmed in Pittsburgh, or just celebrities go to lots og games and we hear about it more now, but it's been a good season for cameos at PPG Paints Arena this year.
Who could forget Heisenberg and Michael Scott earlier?
Chris Kunitz skated on his own again this morning before practice. No sign of Carl Hagelin or Matt Murray on the ice this morning, so they aren't likely to be back anytime soon. The net will be Marc-Andre Fleury's for the foreseeable immediate future.
Blue Jackets’ Matt Calvert suspended after breaking his stick over Penguins player’s neck
The Columbus Blue Jackets had one heck of a season, but the Pittsburgh Penguins are putting them out to pasture through the first two games of their first-round series.
A lackluster Game 1 gave way to another lackluster Game 2 loss for the Blue Jackets on Friday, and the frustration apparently got too much for Matt Calvert to handle. As the game ended, the Blue Jackets forward chased down Penguins forward Tom Kuhnhackl and delivered a pretty dirty play.
The Columbus Blue Jackets had one heck of a season, but the Pittsburgh Penguins are putting them out to pasture through the first two games of their first-round series.
A lackluster Game 1 gave way to another lackluster Game 2 loss for the Blue Jackets on Friday, and the frustration apparently got too much for Matt Calvert to handle. As the game ended, the Blue Jackets forward chased down Penguins forward Tom Kuhnhackl and delivered a pretty dirty play.
The Blue Jackets return home on Sunday for Game 3, down 2-0 in the series. It’s highly doubtful Calvert joins them.
UPDATE: The Department of Player Safety gave Calvert a hearing and suspended him for one game.

The Pens held practice on Saturday at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. Here is what you need to know from that session.
*Forward Tom Kuhnhackl was a popular guy amongst the media. Everyone wanted to hear what he had to say about being the recipient of Matt Calvert's late game cross-check.
"There were a lot of emotions out there. Whatever happened, happened," he said. "That's Game 2. It's another day. We're going to get focused for Game 3."
On the play Kuhnhackl was drifting through the neutral zone unsuspecting when Calvert blind-sided him with the cross check to his shoulder/neck area, which broke his stick. Calvert added a second shot on Kuhnhackl as he was falling to the ice.
"It was my shoulder, neck," Kuhnhackl said. "I feel alright. A little sore. The series is pretty physical so it's normal that you're sore after a game like that."
The NHL is reviewing the play, but Kuhnhackl isn't concerned with any disciplinary action the NHL might lay down.
"That's not up to me. That's up to the league," he said. "We'll see what happens."
*Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, forward Conor Sheary and defenseman Trevor Daley all took maintenance days and were absent from practice.
