If Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor’s back-and-forth on social media were a boxing match, Mayweather just attempted an uppercut to the jaw.
Once again, Mayweather is griping over the amount McGregor should earn to step into the ring with him (remember, he called UFC president Dana White a “comedian” when offered $25 million to fight McGregor). Here, he’s trying to point out how much the MMA fighter is worth.
The problem is: Does anyone besides McGregor know how much McGregor is worth?
As many people have pointed out, Forbes estimates McGregor made $22 million in 2016. For what it’s worth, they also say Mayweather made $44 million last year.
Not quite a knockout blow, it seems. But expect this battle of words to continue until there’s official word that a fight is on or not.

Mayweather may not totally believe the figures he tweeted, but McGregor is certainly not worth a measly $2.5 million (measly for the mega rich).
The website Mayweather used does not factor in McGregor’s earnings after UFC 196 and that is an issue.
McGregor set a new record for fight purses at UFC 202 and then equaled the feat at UFC 205 when he earned $3 million at each event.
That’s not factoring in the various other income boosts the Irishman would have received, but it is unlikely the lightweight champion is worth less than he was paid for his last two fights.
In fact, Forbes rates McGregor’s net worth closer to $22 million after a record-breaking year from the 28-year-old.
McGregor is the first ever MMA fighter to make it into Forbes 100 highest-paid athletes and made the 30 Under 30 European Entertainment stars list as well.
Forbes rate Mayweather considerably less than the huge $650 million figure touted by Teroes.com.
Mayweather’s net worth was capped at $340 million in 2016 by Forbes as they named the undefeated king of boxing in the 40 Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40.
Of course, with so many money deals going on behind the scenes it is hard to tell how much either man is actually worth.
But Forbes are a pretty good bet when it comes to an accurate figure and McGregor is certainly not worth $2.5 million.

Mayweather’s newest jab came on Twitter on Thursday when he took a shot at McGregor’s net worth while comparing it to his own.
The post came along with a caption that also jabbed at UFC president Dana White’s recent offer to pay both fighters $25 million each, with a cut of the pay-per-view profits from their proposed super fight.
“Before you ask for $25M, be worth more than $25M,” Mayweather wrote. “You have the “2” and the “5” right but you meant to say $2.5M not $25M.”
Though Mayweather’s joke didn’t come along with a lot of fact checking.
McGregor earned a disclosed $1 million purse for his fight at UFC 196 against Nate Diaz, and another $3 million for the rematch at UFC 202. McGregor also fought and defeated Eddie Alvarez to win the lightweight title at UFC 205 in November, but those figures weren’t made available to the public by the New York State Athletic Commission.
Based upon his previous fight purses, it’s easy to assume McGregor raked in similar money for the Alvarez bout as he did for the rematch with Diaz. Especially considering McGregor also makes a percentage of pay-per-view profits that likely multiply his total earnings by seven or eight figures.
