It's Morphin Time in New 'Power Rangers' Trailer

Power Rangers is taking you back to the beginning.

In a new trailer released on Thursday for the highly anticipated movie, we see how Red Ranger Jason (Dacre Montgomery), Blue Ranger Billy (RJ Cyler), Yellow Ranger Trini (Becky G.), Black Ranger Zack (Ludi Lin) and Pink Ranger Kimberly (Naomi Scott) came to be.

"Me and four kids found a spaceship buried underground," Trini says in the trailer. "I'm pretty sure I'm a superhero."

The official synopsis says the reboot follows "five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove -- and the world -- is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat."

"Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet," the synopsis continues. "But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late."

The full-length trailer comes after the first teaser trailer was released in October, showing the franchise in a darker light.

In June, Bryan Cranston, who plays Zordon in the reboot, dished to ET about his character.

"It's motion capture, and it's a lot of CGI work," he said.

In the '90s TV show, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Zordon was trapped in a time warp, and the new movie could be exploring his mysterious backstory even more.

"The tenant of that storyline is that this is a real person who is trapped in this etherworld and it becomes this in-the-wall so to speak of [the command center]," said Cranston. "He still has a heart and mind, but an agenda that he's got to get these five Power Rangers to defend the earth or else everyone they know will be killed."

Saban's Power Rangers, also starring Elizabeth Banks and Bill Hader, hits theaters March 24.

Lionsgate has debuted the new Power Rangers trailer, which gives you a first look at Bryan Cranston’s Zordon!

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

The Power Rangers cast includes Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger, with Bill Hader (“Saturday Night Live) voicing Alpha 5, Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad,” Godzilla) as Zordon, and Elizabeth Banks as villain Rita Repulsa.

Directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), Power Rangers is written by John Gatins (Kong: Skull Island, Real Steel), Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold), Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor), and Max Landis (Chronicle). Producers are Power Rangers creator Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, Wyck Godfrey, and Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars, The Maze Runner franchise).

Power Rangers is coming to theaters on March 24, 2017.

Superheroes don’t have to come from the brightly-colored pages of American comic books; the Power Rangers series that captivated youngsters during the ‘90s and early 2000s had roots in Japan, stemming from their tradition of kaiju films. It’s a powerful bridge between cultures, the universal desire to watch a team of teenagers with extraordinary abilities team up to beat the stuffing out of gigantic monsters, And now it’ll connect generations, too, as the official trailer arrives today with the promise of the same spirit of teamwork and towering-menace-fighting that made them an unlikely cross-Pacific sensation two decades ago.

A group of telegenic teenagers are innocently palling around when one of them discovers some mystical ancient coins, imbuing them with powers and leading them to an underground spaceship where their lives will be changed forever. What follows looks like the standard-issue Peter Parker arc, as they come to grips with their spectacular new powers and learn about the great responsibility that comes with them. In this instance, that responsibility is fighting the nefarious Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) and her army of rock monsters with the help of their mentor Zordon (Bryan Cranston). And along the way, they just might learn something [deep breath] about themselves.

It‘s a bit disappointing to see the new trailer scrubbed of its charming kaiju influence, and it’s something of a red flag that two of the film’s five (!) credited writers were recently responsible for Dracula Untold and Gods of Egypt, but maybe it’s not time to abandon hope just yet. After all, we still haven’t gotten much quality time with their Bill Hader-voiced robot sidekick.
