Suspect in custody after fatal Las Vegas bus shooting
The suspect in a shooting that left one person dead and another wounded on a bus in Las Vegas is in custody after a tense standoff in which the suspect barricaded himself inside the, police said.
After a lengthy standoff, the armed suspect surrendered, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said.
Police said it is unknown what provoked the shooting, but there was no evidence to suggest that the incident was related to a robbery overnight at Bellagio Resort & Casino overnight or that it was related to terrorism.
"This incident is is right now not deemed to be terrorist related or in any sense like that. This is a single incident that has no terrorist nexus of any sort that we know of," Las Vegas Metro Police Spokesman Larry Hadfield said.
According to a tweet from the LVMPD, part of the Las Vegas Strip was shut down after the gunman barricaded himself inside the bus, but officials hoped to open it as soon as possible. The area that was shut down, between Flamingo and Harmon streets, is where several large hotels are, including Planet Hollywood, Bellagio and the Cosmopolitan.
The shooting prompted reports of an active shooter inside the nearby Cosmo Hotel and Casino, but police say there was no active shooter and no shootings on any hotel property.

Las Vegas Metro police said an armed man surrendered after a three-hour standoff on a two-story bus that closed the Vegas Strip on Saturday.
Police say the man shot and killed one person and wounded another.
Police evacuated the nearby Cosmopolitan hotel and casino floor shortly before 11 a.m. local time Saturday as a result of the incident. They blocked off pedestrian walkways and several blocks of traffic on the Strip. Guests were allowed back into the casino around 4 p.m. and police slowly reopened roads near the incident.
Despite some reports, there was no confirmed second suspect and it was not an active shooter situation, police added.
"The shooting incident happened on the bus," said Larry Hadfield, a spokesman with Las Vegas Metro police. "We had one single shooting incident with two victims. Both were transported to the trauma center and one is deceased."
Hadfield said the shooter was armed with a handgun and was the only person on the bus before he surrendered.
"This is a single incident and is not deemed to be terrorism related," Hadfield said.
The man was in his 50s and randomly opened fired at passengers, Assistant Sheriff Tom Roberts said.
"He was on the second floor of the bus and started shooting at passengers," Roberts said. "He was delusional and talked about seeing people, so he was definitely not with it and suffered some mental health issues."
Roberts said the man opened fire with a handgun during the police negotiation, but officers did not return fire.
Guests at the hotel were instructed to shelter in their rooms.
Earlier Saturday, three people wearing dress clothing and animal masks robbed a jewelry store inside the Bellagio hotel-casino complex, which is next door, police said. Police said the two incidents are not connected.

Around 3:20 p.m. (6:20 p.m. ET), the man surrendered. Police said he had a handgun.
No one else was on the bus, a white double-decker with advertising wrapping on the windows that makes it difficult to see inside.
The incident is not related to terrorism, Hadfield said. There also is no evidence that the incident is connected to a robbery earlier Saturday at the Bellagio.
Hadfield said he had no information about the shooting suspect or the victims.
Las Vegas Boulevard had traffic flowing north and south by Saturday evening.
