Heather Morris on 'Dancing with the Stars' ouster: 'It is what it is'
The audience inside the "Dancing with the Stars" ballroom felt anything but glee over Heather Morris and Maksim Chmerkovskiy's shocking elimination. But the former "Glee" star is taking it all in stride.
"I was expecting it to go either way. I was just happy to be there," Morris said on "Good Morning America." "When it happened, I was just like, 'You know, it is what it is. Things will happen as they may.'"
Morris and Chmerkovskiy were the fifth couple to be eliminated this season, a move that came to the surprise of viewers in the audience and at home.
Morris, a professionally trained dancer, was considered a frontrunner.
She and Chmerkovskiy received a perfect score for their Rumba to TLC's "Waterfalls" on Monday night's episode.
Chmerkovskiy did not appear alongside Morris on "GMA" Tuesday morning due to an incident that took place at the home he shares with fiancee and fellow "DWTS" pro Peta Murgatroyd, according to Morris.
"Peta is okay, that's the most important thing," she said.

"Dancing with the Stars" viewers were completely shaken Monday night -- but their shock was nowhere near that of Heather Morris and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. In a dramatic twist, the frontrunners were eliminated after giving a performance that earned a perfect score. In fact, it was the first perfect score of the season!
In a word? "I'm pissed," Maks told ET after the show.
When the announcement was made, the audience reacted viscerally, with loud boos and yells echoing through the studio. "I have to say, in 24 seasons, that's probably the most vocally unhappy reaction we've gotten about a result," host Tom Bergeron said.
Maks and Heather tried to be diplomatic about their reaction, but they were clearly stunned: "Well, I mean we've had a few [surprising upsets] in 24 seasons of the show [but] I just never thought that that one of my [partners] was going to be a part of that shock," Maks said. "Brandy [Norwood] and I didn't make the final [in season 11] when I thought she was one of the best dancers that season, but [that] wasn't as shocking as this. This is crazy."
"I feel like, [as] with any show that you watch on TV, it's like, you don't really know what's coming next," Heather added. "I was kinda preparing for anything that could happen or could come my way. So it was like, okay, if this is going to happen, let's just be positive and go out the right way."
Maks had only just returned to the "DWTS" stage after being sidelined with a calf injury for a month. Fans were ecstatic to see Maks return -- but that apparently didn't translate into votes, even though the duo received perfect 10s from the judges' panel. They performed a rumba set to TLC's "Waterfalls."
Not everyone was bothered by the unexpected elimination: Heather's spot on the stage was controversial from the beginning as she has an extensive dance background. On Tuesday, a Washington Post column read, "Heather Morris was voted off 'Dancing With the Stars,' but did she really belong on the show?"
With Maks and Heather out of the game, a new frontrunner will emerge. Anything could happen!

The ballroom champ, 37, shared his thoughts about Morris’ unexpected exit from the show during a Tuesday, April 25, interview on SiriusXM’s Conversations with Maria Menounos.
“I just hope that Heather’s elimination isn’t going to be, like, sort of shoved under the rug,” Chmerkovskiy said. “She is an uber-talented person. I just wish that we got to show it.”
According to the TV personality, he believes people thought that Morris, 30, would be safe, given her dance experience — she used to dance for Beyonce! — and her high scores from the judges. As viewers saw on the Monday, April 24, episode of DWTS, the Glee alum gave a showstopping performance that earned season 24’s first perfect score, but she still got voted off the show.
While he was disappointed in being booted from the competition, the new dad — who shares son Shai, 3 months, with wife and fellow DWTS star Peta Murgatroyd — told Menounos that he is staying positive.
“There’s no hard feelings, obviously, because the show is great. We understand now what it is, what it’s not. And it’s an opportunity for people from different walks of life to come in together, do stuff,” he said. “That’s been happening for, like, you know, we’re on 24 seasons. I don’t know anything that’s out there for 24 seasons that involves reality television like that.”
Chmerkovskiy added, “It pushes us forth, it pushes dance’s agenda. We started Dancing With the Stars and have giant billboards above Sunset [Boulevard]. … We can’t be not proud of where we’ve come from and where we are and it’s all because of dance. It’s all because of Dancing With the Stars.”
