During Sunday's Paleyfest session for American Horror Story: Roanoke, the stars of the hit FX series took the stage in Los Angeles to discuss the most recent season while seated next to each other. However, fans are talking about something a bit different 24 hours later.
As the session was under way, cast members individually walked out onto the stage to take their seats. As Kathy Bates was walking out, Sarah Paulson jumped up to greet her. As the Golden Globe winners were busy being silly and laughing with each other in front of the audience, Cuba Gooding Jr. lifted up Paulson's purple Prada skirt from behind her. When the actress noticed what he was doing, she pulled the garment back down to cover her legs.
Fans expressed their alarm about the action on social media, calling it "disrespectful" and "gross."
"What happened to Sarah Paulson yesterday at #PaleyFest was so disrespectful and definitely NOT OK or funny," one fan tweeted.
"A planned publicity stunt, or grace under humiliation?" another Twitter user mused.
"How would @cubagoodingjr react if a man walked up to his daughter, Piper and lifted her dress up behind her back? #itsneverok," another fan responded.
Overall, the action has caused quite the digital debate and, for many, has landed the actor in hot water.

At Sunday’s “American Horror Story: Roanoke” PaleyFest panel in Los Angeles, Cuba Gooding Jr. caused a stir when he lifted Sarah Paulson’s dress while she stood on stage to greet a fellow cast mate.
The moment was captured on camera when Paulson got up to dramatically greet Kathy Bates. Paulson threw her arms wide open and kicked up her leg to welcome Bates.
Gooding Jr. then lifted her dress from behind. Paulson didn’t seem to notice at first, but once she did she hit her skirt to push it down and let out a shriek.
The moment seemed to be a joke on Gooding Jr.’s part but many Twitter users weren’t laughing.
According to TV Guide, the cast of “American Horror Story Roanoke” laughed on stage during the panel and all seemed to be in good spirits.
Creator Ryan Murphy was not present at the panel so the chat about the series did not include hints about what is to come during Season 7.

As fellow star Kathy Bates was being introduced to a crowd inside Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, Paulson, 42, greeted the actress as Gooding, 49, grabbed her sheath from behind. Although Paulson initially shrieked after discovering what Gooding was up to, the pair, who portray husband and wife on Season 6 of the FX anthology series, appeared to be in a playful mood as the event continued.
While neither Paulson nor Gooding has addressed the incident on social media, the Academy Award-winning actor was skewered on Twitter for his actions.
“@cubagoodingjr hi, dude. did you apologize to Sarah? you should if you didn’t bc what you did was Gross and Disrespectful,” one user wrote.
“FYI the reason @MsSarahPaulson is smiling is bc @MsKathyBates, then screams out of shock at the disrespectful actions of @cubagoodingjr,” another tweeted.
“Um… so is @cubagoodingjr allowed to get away with lifting @MsSarahPaulson skirt at @paleycenter? Total disrespect to a woman,” sniped another.
