Rickie Fowler hangs out with pole vaulter Allison Stokke (Yes, that Allison Stokke)
No one enjoyed being around other athletes at the 2016 Summer Olympics more than Rickie Fowler. And the golfer is still surrounding himself with people from other sports.
During an off weekend, Fowler, an avid motocross fan, attended the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas. And he hung out with former pole vaulter Allison Stokke.
If the name sounds familiar, that's because Stokke became a bit of an internet sensation thanks to a photo snapped of her during a high school meet. She went on to become an All-American at the University of California, although she has never quite made the U.S. Olympic squad. Stokke has 280,000 Instagram followers and is currently a fitness model in addition to being a pole vaulter.
Rickie Fowler hangs out with Allison Stokke at Grand Prix race
April 24 (UPI) -- Rickie Fowler enjoyed the MotoGP Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas this weekend alongside pole vaulter Allison Stokke in Austin, Texas.
Several pictures posted of the duo have now sparked dating rumors.
The golfer dated model Alexis Randock until they split in 2015. Since then, he has made fun of himself in several photos for his single status. At the 2016 Ryder Cup, Fowler stood by himself wearing a smirk, while other golfers locked lips with their significant others.
Earlier this month, Fowler did a similar pose while vacationing in Baker's Bay. While friends Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Smylie Kaufman held their significant others, Fowler gestured by himself in the front of the photo.
Fowler and Stokke posted two pictures Sunday, prompting fans to wonder if the couple arrived at the race together. Fowler also shot several Snapchat videos while watching the race, but he didn't pan over to show viewers who he was sitting next to in the stands.
In his photo caption, Fowler wrote: "I won!" Stokke wrote: "We tied?" on her photo.
Fowler and Stokke are both 28-years-old. Stoke is now a fitness model and has more than 286,000 Instagram followers. She was one of the country's best pole vaulters in high school. She then went to the University of California-Berkley, while chasing her Olympic dream.
Stokke has never qualified or participated in the Olympics, but became an internet sensation in 2008 when a photo was released featuring her posing with a pole while wearing her pole vaulting wardrobe. The photo quickly went viral, with many of its posters making references to her appearance instead of her athletic prowess. Stoke was just 17-years-old at the time. She saw offers from Maxim and coverage in Glamour shortly after that.
In 2016 she did an interview for ESPN for an article titled: "Allison Stokke doesn't want to be your sex symbol."
"My response back then, in 2008 -- was I flattered? In some ways, sure. But I was overwhelmed, too," Stokke told ESPN in July. "And I think my response to being overwhelmed was to just stay away from it entirely. But now, I'm trying to figure out how to reclaim it and own it and push it in the right direction. And benefit from it -- in terms of fueling my training. And if I try to ignore it, it will take on a life of its own. Which is what I did in college: ignore it. And I lost control of my own story."
Stoke is now a model athlete for Athleta and Nike.
Fowler last won at the Feb. 26 Honda Classic. He tied for 11th at the Masters and finished third at the Shell Houston Open. He has been one of the most active golfers off of the links and on social media.
He spends his free time hanging out with superstar Justin Bieber and also enjoys profiling his annual Bahamas trip with Spieth, Thomas, and Kaufman on multiple social media platforms. This year, the foursome dubbed the vacation: "SB2K17."
Fans will undoubtedly track Fowler's Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter posts to see if there are more shots with Stokke after he put his arm around the track and field star several times at the Circuit of the Americas.
Spain's Marc Marquez won his fifth consecutive MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas at the race on Sunday. He finished with a time of 43:58.77, edging Italy's Valentino Rossi.
