When is The Defenders out on Netflix, who’s in the cast, is there a trailer and what’s it about?

NETFLIX is bringing four Marvel superheroes together for a new crossover mini series.

Following the success of the individual origin shows, fans are now going to get to see their favourite characters work together in order to defeat a new threat.

But what is The Defenders about? Here’s what we know so far…

What is The Defenders about?

The series will follow Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil uniting to become New York’s coolest crime-busting megateam, whether they like it or not.

All four heroes already have their own individual series so the show will see their world collide completely as they take on a new villain.

It appears the troubled foursome will have to bond together if they want to save New York City.

Who is in the cast?

Krysten Ritter plays feisty detective Jessica Jones, who has superhuman strength and limited flight powers. The troubled character also suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and doesn’t think of herself as a superhero.

Mike Colter plays former convict Luke Cage, who posses superhuman strength and unbreakable “bulletproof” skin. He uses his power to fight crime and is closer to Jessica Jones.

Charlie Cox stars as blind lawyer Matt Murdock, who’s remaining four senses are extremely enhanced allowing him to fight crime under the alias Daredevil.

While Finn Jones stars as Iron Fist, a billionaire Buddhist monk and martial arts expert who can call upon the mystical power of the Iron  Fist.

And Sigourney Weaver plays new villain Alexandra, who has no obvious comic book history.

She may well be a crime boss but fans will have to wait until the show drops in the summer to find out what the Defenders are up against.

When is The Defenders out on Netflix?

The show premieres on August 18, 2017, five months after The Iron Fist dropped on Netflix, which has been spoiling Marvel fans rotten with shows like Legion as well at its Defenders origin shows.

The first trailer shows the four of them are meeting up to eat Chinese and discuss why they should fight crime together.

We then see snippet of the hero team at work indicating they will be leaving a pile of injured enemies in their wake on the show.

The series will see Jessica Jones will have to collaborate with three male egos. Netflix

What we learnt from first full Defenders trailer

IT’S here. It’s finally here.

The first full trailer for The Defenders has dropped and it is a marvel to behold. Pun absolutely intended.
Three months and two weeks away from the series’ release on Netflix, this is the most we’ve seen of what to expect from the eight-episode miniseries.

A teaser trailer released last month only gave us a tantalising taste — this is the closest we’ll get to the real deal until August 18.

Here’s what we’ve gleaned from the trailer:
Jessica Jones is still sticking her nose in it, ending up in handcuffs in front of Misty Knight. Misty slams folders full of Jessica’s police run-ins — of course she would have multiple files. She’s also clearly still her surly self, drinking hard and being rough with her targets.

We find out how Jessica and Matt meet. He turns up during her interrogation and tells her to shut up. Don’t know about you, but it’s a bit of a downgrade. Maybe Hogarth was busy that day?

Luke says he wants to help people and Claire offers to introduce him to someone. Claire knows all of the Defenders so it could be any of the other three. But when they do meet, it’s not Claire that’s making the introductions. There’s a distinctly “who the hell are you” vibe and they engage in fisticuffs.

There’s something very satisfying about seeing Luke punch out Danny (who’s sporting a spiffy new haircut), who collapses in a heap. Danny then uses his glowy fist to make a dent in the bulletproof man. Danny and Luke are good mates, and business partners, in the comics so expect the two to share a lot of screen time, and get over their initially frosty encounter.

We get to see Sigourney Weaver as villain Alexandra — still no clues as to who her comic book counterpart may be. She is, though, clearly powerful and controls the cabal of Hand ninjas. And she’s also fond of making not-so-veiled threats in the middle of Chinese restaurants.

Daredevil’s secret identity might not be so secret in The Defenders because he’s constantly shown fighting without his mask on. Not once, but twice. Sloppy, Matthew. Sloppy.

Elektra is back from the dead. Which was obvious from the closing credits of Daredevil season two but here’s the confirmation. And it doesn’t look like she’s on our heroes’ side.

HALLWAY FIGHT! We know there’s nothing quite like a hallway fight in the Defenders universe. This is also probably the fight that immediately preceded the elevator ride in the teaser trailer, which put this scene in the Midland Circle building.

By the by, who’s that red figure stalking up the back? Cover your rearguard, people!
